#NewRelease ~ MINK OMEGA IN HIDING His mate is back! But will he stay? #romance #MMromance #MPreg #PNR #reading

Hello!! I'm excited to say that today is the release day for MINK OMEGA IN HIDING! I've shared snippets as part of Weekend Writing Warriors and shared the entire first chapter over four days last week. If you missed any of them, you can find them below. Happy reading!

Mink Omega in Hiding
Shifter Towers book two

Roan is looking for a way out...
As a mink shifter omega, I never thought I’d escape the soul-crushing, gang-ruled world I lived in. But, one night on my way home from working at the strip club, the opportunity arose. I needed to find a place to hide, somewhere I could go where no one from this life would ever find me. Someplace I could start over. With my parents deceased, I only had one person from my past I could ask for help. But would he want to see me again?

Hansol has everything in his life, except his mate…
After two years of running a successful fitness center with celebrities as my personal clients and friends, one would think I had everything I’ve ever wanted. But I don’t. The one thing I still desire is to have my mate by my side. Something my sun bear keeps reminding me of every day. Sure, I’ve had plenty of omegas and other alphas in my bed, but no one I want to wake up with each morning. That person left my life years ago with no explanation and no goodbye.

Will they find their way back to each other?
Then Roan shows up on my doorstep, soaking wet, and with no belongings. Of course, I take him in. But I don’t know how long I have until he leaves again. Can I trust him this time? Can I finally claim him as my mate? Or am I holding onto false hope? Because I know there is something he is keeping from me.

Mink Omega in Hiding is a super sweet with knotty heat shifter M/M mpreg romance featuring a mink shifter escaping horrific abuse, a reconnection with an alpha friend from the past who stands between him and danger, and the discovery of what really could happen between them. It is the second book in the popular Shifter Towers series and can be read as a standalone.

Catching up with an old friend. Read an excerpt from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #romance #MMromance #LGBTQ #PNR #MPreg

Hello!! I'm excited to say that the release date for MINK OMEGA IN HIDING is in THREE DAYS! I've been sharing excerpts from the first chapter this week, and today is the last one. If you missed the first three, you can find them here, here, and here. Enjoy!

Chapter One continued...

Hansol

I waved, but he looked away, hiding his head in his arms. “Um, it’s good to see you again.” Not wanting to spook him, I unlocked the door then held it open. “Would you like to come in?”

Was that a smart thing to ask? I hadn’t seen him in years, didn’t know what he’d been involved in, why he’d disappeared without even a simple goodbye. My heart was beyond happy to see him, but my mind had so many doubts. And I couldn’t trust my bear at all. It recognized its mate and only wanted one thing.

Roan whimpered then nodded, slowly standing. Though taller than I remembered, he was still shorter than me and quite lean, wet clothes clinging to his slender frame. He needed to eat more and come to the gym with me to build some muscle. Whoa! I needed to slow down. I still had no idea why he was here, what he wanted, how long he’d be in my life before he disappeared again. Best to find out that information before making plans for our future.

“Come in, then.” Once he made it to the foyer, I rushed to my room to grab a towel and a change of clothes. Mine would be too big on him, but they were dry, which I hoped he’d appreciate. “Here. I’ll be in the other room for a few minutes so you can change. Then we’ll talk.”

He nodded. “Thank you.”

Goose bumps covered my body. I paused in my retreat to catch my breath. His angelic voice still had the same effect on me. How was I going to survive him being at my house? I was physically stronger than I had been the last time we’d seen each other. But mentally, I was weak. Especially when it came to Roan. I didn’t know how long I could resist the need to claim my mate. Regardless, now wasn’t the time. I continued on my way to my office to drop off paperwork I’d brought home to do on my day off.

When I returned to the living room, Roan was still standing in the foyer, pulling at the cuff of one of the sleeves of my hoodie and chewing on his bottom lip. Utterly irresistible. How had I not tried for more with him when he was my roommate all those years ago?

“Come in, come in.” I moved a couple of fitness magazines off my leather chair so he could sit there if he didn’t want to take the couch. “Take a seat. Make yourself comfortable.” I headed to the kitchen and grabbed two of the meals I had prepared the previous weekend. “I’ve got shells, cheese, and trees for dinner. I mean, avocado-mac-and-cheese with broccoli. You hungry?”

Twisting his hands in each other, Roan stared at the floor, not yet seated. “I...I don’t want to impose. I didn’t know where else to go.”

The urge to take him in my arms, hold him tight, and tell him everything would be okay was so strong. But, clenching my fists, I stayed where I was. It was far too soon. I still had so many unanswered questions. And the last thing I wanted to do was spook him. “I’ll warm up these meals for us and toss your clothes in the washing machine. Then we can sit and chat while we eat. Okay?”

He nodded, eyes brimming with tears then finally slumped into the chair. My mate had finally returned to me, though I had the horrible feeling he wouldn’t be here for long.

“So, where have you been living since you left college?” I asked as I set a plate in front of him.

“Gitown.” He took a small mouthful of food then closed his eyes with a delighted sigh, as if it were the best thing he’d ever eaten.

Though I doubted that, since his parents had been very wealthy when I’d met him. Maybe circumstances had changed. Gitown wasn’t exactly known for catering to the rich. Any wealth there was distributed among the multiple gangs known to rule the city. “Oh, I…. All this time?”

Shoveling in more food, he nodded. “Except the first little bit when I lived in Torago with my parents.”

I wanted to ask why he’d left so suddenly and moved far away. Find out his reasons for not calling me, for forgetting me and what we’d shared, our connection that kept me from ever wanting to have feelings for another. Yet, he couldn’t have totally forgotten me, since he was here. “Are you in trouble, Roan?”

He tensed, and his breathing became heavy. “I….” Pushing his plate away, he seemed about to bolt.

I shuffled closer and rested my hand on his knee. The connection was a shock to the senses, but I couldn’t think about it then. With a deep breath, I cleared my mind and focused on Roan. “I want to help you. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to. But I need to be sure you mean me no harm. I know about the gangs in Gitown and hope you won’t be bringing that trouble here.”

Tears streamed down his cheeks. “I left the Tanks.” He sniffled. “They don’t know I’m here. Probably don’t know I left yet.”

I nodded, handing him the box of tissues. “Okay. Well, you’re here now.” Moving in front of him, I cupped his cheeks and used my thumbs to wipe his tears. “No need to cry. You’re safe.”

But he wouldn’t look at me. Was he hiding something or ashamed of being in a gang? Maybe both. Yet, I didn’t want to push him. He’d come around in time. At least I hoped so. I took a couple of tissues and dabbed his face until he took them from me and finished cleaning himself.

I didn’t press anymore, hoping he would become more comfortable and talk on his own. Yet, after I returned from taking our dishes to the kitchen and cleaning up from dinner, I found Roan curled in the chair, sound asleep. As adorable as the sight was, I could only imagine how cramped he’d be when he woke. I scooped him into my arms and moved him onto the couch. Then I found a blanket and draped it over him. In the morning, I’d try for more answers. Until then, I hoped he’d stick around.

Stranger or Familiar Face? Read an excerpt from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #romance #MMromance #LGBTQ #PNR #MPreg

Hello!! I'm excited to say that the release date for MINK OMEGA IN HIDING is only a few days away! I've been sharing excerpts from the first chapter for the past two days, and have another for you today. I'm switching points of view here, and if you read BUNNY OMEGA ON THE RUN, you'll recognized a familiar character in this excerpt. If you missed the previous two excerpts, you can find them here and here. Enjoy!

Chapter One continued...

Hansol

“C’mon, TK. Give me five more. Now four. Three. Two and one. Great work today.” I patted the pop star on his back, proud of how much he’d pushed himself during today’s session. Working with several clients over the last couple of years, I’d seen so many different reactions to me pushing them to go farther. And I loved when they actually accomplished it. Though I had to be careful with TK. He was going on tour at the end of the month. As his personal trainer, I had to know his limits as much as he did, read his body cues so he didn’t injure himself.

He gripped my shoulder as he stretched each of his calves. “You’re really turning into a drill sergeant, you know that?”

“Nah, just getting you ready for all your excited fans.” And doing my job.

After completing his stretches, TK grabbed his towel and water bottle. “The only fans I’m concerned about right now are the two waiting for me in the daycare. With Kish at the first photo shoot of a new contract today, they’re all mine.”

“Your biggest fans, I’m sure.” I smiled, recalling last week when I’d seen the two-year-olds clinging to their father’s legs on the way out of the gym.

“Indeed. I love them to bits.” He flicked his towel at me. “Hey, you ever think about having kids? Gabrielle and Gareth can’t get enough of you. You’d make a great dad.”

If he wasn’t a friend on top of being a client, I would never answer such a personal question. But I couldn’t avoid answering TK. “Gotta find the right mate first.”

He chuckled. “You mean a hot alpha like you, who owns his own business, doesn’t have any prospects?”

“Oh, I have plenty of offers. I just haven’t found the right one.” And never expected to. The chance to be with my one true mate had come and gone. And I didn’t want to settle for anyone else.

“High standards?” TK eyed me. “Or maybe still pining over someone.”

“Neither.” We were close friends, but I wasn’t ready to tell him about that part of my past. Didn’t want my life to become one of his songs. “I haven’t met anyone who makes me want to spend less time here.”

“You can’t stay married to your work forever.” TK nodded. “But I get it. I was like that until I met Kish.” He slapped my back. “I have a feeling you’ll find your mate someday. And I can’t wait to meet him.”

I shrugged. I’d given up on that fairy tale long ago. Sure, I’d had my share of bed buddies, but I wasn’t about to mark any of them as mine and would never bring a child into the world with anyone other than my mate. “I’ll see you Monday?”

Lifting a brow, TK shook his head. “Um, no. Kish will be here, but I have a rehearsal with my dancers. Hey, some of them are single.”

“No thanks.” I playfully shoved him into the changing room. “Go get your kids, and have fun at your rehearsal.”

Leaving the pop star, I headed for my office where I had my own personal bathroom and shower. I was done for the day, too. After washing up and saying goodbye to the remaining staff, I took the elevator down to the parking garage. Before I became personal trainer to TK and Kish, I’d never used the underground roadway. But then I awoke one night to a camera flash through my bedroom window. Thank goodness I hadn’t brought anyone home that night. When I’d told my celebrity friends the next day during their training session, they’d suggested I use the exclusive route to get out of central Saramto. It cut twenty minutes off my drive, and I hadn’t had any unwanted visitors since then.

Tonight, I took the route a little farther than normal to avoid the pouring rain. I wasn’t in the mood to enjoy the wet, blurred scenery. It would only dampen my mood even more. TK had gotten me thinking about my lack of a mate, about the person I’d thought would be in my life forever who’d disappeared without a trace. I hadn’t grown attached to anyone after him, too afraid they’d eventually leave me as well. A lonely life, but I kept myself busy so I hadn’t thought about it too much. Not until tonight.

When I reached my exit, I pressed the button on my remote then waited for the gate to open before driving the final two blocks to my bungalow. It wasn’t a large house. A two bedroom, the second of which I used for an office and workout room. And in a fairly quiet neighborhood where neighbors still waved in passing and kept an eye on each other’s homes. They all knew the night I had the rogue photographer, and one had even phoned the police.

Yet no one seemed to have noticed the bundle of clothes curled up on my porch. I parked in my driveway and wondered if I should even step out of my car. What did the person want? Were they there specifically for me or just looking for a dry place? I was a strong guy and could take most people down on my own, but I had no defense against a gun. Should I risk it?

I cautiously got out of the car and walked to the porch steps. “Um, can I help you?”

The person glanced up at me, and I gasped, locking onto the most beautiful pair of eyes I’d ever seen. Eyes belonging to a person I would never forget. “Roan?”

He didn’t stand as I drew closer, only continued to stare with big, sad eyes. And he still had his naturally pouty bottom lip. What had happened to him since I’d last seen him? And why did he suddenly show up on my porch? Was I dreaming? Had I fallen asleep at the wheel? I pinched the top of my hand then let go at the pain. Nope. Not a dream.

From Gitown to Saramto. Read an excerpt from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #romance #MMromance #LGBTQ #PNR #MPreg

Hello!! I'm excited to say that the release date for MINK OMEGA IN HIDING is less than a week away! So, I've started sharing excerpts from the first chapter. If you missed the first excerpt, you can find it here. Enjoy!

Chapter One continued...

Roan

Run

What did that mean? And who had sent it? No one had my number except work and Tuan. He’d made sure of that.

My hand holding the phone shook. Should I believe what the message said? Had something happened? Or was it a threat? Tuan had a lot of enemies, some of whom had found me at the club. Thank goodness the bouncers there were armed for such occasions.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Maybe someone had texted the wrong number. The message was meant for somebody else.

Suddenly the volume of the voices on the bus heightened. I glanced out the window to see what the excitement was about then realized how close to home I was. I yanked on the stop-request cord then carefully headed for the exit. And that’s when I noticed the lights. Blue and red. All flashing. My home was surrounded by police cars and crime scene tape.

Then I recalled the message. Run. It was meant for me. But who had sent me the warning?

I returned to my seat, not budging when the bus stopped.

“You getting off, sweetheart?” the bus driver called.

I ducked low in my seat. “Uh, no. Not yet. Forgot I had to pick up some groceries before I go home.”

The driver knew I lived in the neighborhood but not which house. Tuan had me circle the block and enter through the back gate. Paranoia, I’d originally believed, but now I was thankful for the stupid tactic. No one on the bus knew the house they were all staring at, wondering what had happened there, was my home. A place I doubted I could return to. Though I didn’t want to anyway.

I crossed my arms and rocked my right leg back and forth, trying to prevent the fear swirling in my stomach from consuming me. I had to find somewhere to go, someone I could trust. But that wasn’t anyone or any place in Gitown.

Shit! All my saved money was hidden in a canister tucked under a loose floorboard in the back of my closet. I had only the one hundred dollars in cash I’d made tonight, money Tuan would have taken the instant I walked in the door. It wouldn’t last me long. But I refused to return home. I had to figure out where to go. I wasn’t going down for whatever Tuan got himself involved in this time. I always minded my own business for that reason. Yet, I was sure Detective Merida would find any excuse to interrogate me. That couldn’t happen. I needed out of the city. And fast.

When the bus reached the main terminal, I rushed off and headed to the station for the out-of-town routes. The arrival/departure screen indicated several buses would be leaving at six a.m. But I didn’t want to wait around the station for the next few hours. I knew what happened to people who were found here in the middle of the night. Especially omegas like me. Tuan had told me stories, been involved in many of the attacks. I needed to go somewhere now.

One bus on the platform was boarding passengers. Its sign read Saramto. A ten-hour drive to a place I hadn’t been in years. A city that held so many good memories. But with the way I’d left, would the memories have washed away, be long forgotten? Would he remember me? Would he even want to see me? Heck, I didn’t even know if he still lived there. But I had no other choice.

I went to the ticket booth. “How much to get on that bus to Saramto?”

The woman behind the plexiglass and metal bars looked up. “One way is fifty dollars. Round trip is eighty.”

I counted out the right cash then slipped it into the metal bowl on the counter. “One way, please.”

The agent didn’t say a word, just took my money then printed off the ticket, which she dropped into a slot in front of me.

Grabbing the piece of paper, I rushed onto the bus. Thankfully, it wasn’t crowded. In fact, there were maybe ten other passengers. I took a seat two behind the driver, the aisle seat. When the bus finally got going, I moved to the window, but I didn’t want anyone to dart on at the last minute and sit beside me.

Finally, the bus departed the terminal and, within a half hour, Gitown was behind me. A place I never wanted to return to. And never would. Even if things didn’t work out in Saramto, I wouldn’t have any money to get back. I could only hold onto the hope that an old friendship would remain true even after so many years. Otherwise, I was doomed.

Roan's performance is over. Read an excerpt from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #romance #MMromance #LGBTQ #PNR #MPreg

Hello!! I'm excited to say that the release date for MINK OMEGA IN HIDING is less than a week away! So, I'm going to be sharing excerpts from the first chapter over the next four days. I've been sharing snippets as part of Weekend Writing Warriors, but these excerpts are going to be longer than the ten sentence limit of the later. Enjoy!

Chapter One

Roan

As a child, I often believed standing on stage performing for enraptured spectators would be the best feeling in the world. I was so wrong. My audience twenty years later consisted of drunk and horny wolf shifters waiting for me to sway my hips and peel my clothing off one piece at a time.

Even though I knew they were there, I couldn’t look at any one of them. If I did, I would freeze, be completely unable to perform. Instead, I imagined stripping for someone else, someone from long ago. Thoughts of my first love helped me through work, and every day at home when Tuan wanted me to perform sexual favors for him and several of his gang members, or decided he wanted to remind me of his dominance with his fists.

Memories of my first love helped me through it all. He’d never loved me back. Not in the way I’d wanted him to. But he’d always treated me as an equal, even if he was an alpha and I was only an omega. I pictured him sitting in the front row, weaved my hips around to entice him, make him want to claim me. I teased him, showing flashes of skin before lifting my shirt off. Then I slowly rolled down my pants, a little at a time before I bent over in front of him, giving him a view of my bare ass.

Ignoring the catcalls, I imagined his deep voice encouraging me, telling me that I was a good omega and how much he loved me.

And then my performance was done.

“Oh, you were so good, baby,” Pog, one of Tuan’s minions called from the audience. He’d arrived later than usual tonight, though I wished he hadn’t shown up at all. “Let’s go to a private room where you can grind that pretty little ass over me.”

Swallowing the bile that tried to escape, I grabbed my clothes from the stage and ran off. Tuan insisted that I didn’t give private dances at work. Not when he wasn’t there to profit from it. Besides, it was my last dance for the night, and I had to rush to get dressed and catch the last bus of the night that went past the club.

After saying good night to some of the other dancers, I pulled the strings on my hoodie a little tighter and pushed open the door of the employee entrance. Escaping out into the muggy night, I headed for the bus stop. My shift was over, though I wanted to go home as much as I wanted to stay at work. Tuan would want the same thing every guy who came into the club longed for. My body. But, for once, I wanted to feel like I was appreciated for more than the shape of my ass and sway of my hips. I wanted to have an intellectual conversation instead of hearing, “Hey, baby, come and sit that pretty ass on my lap.”

Yet I had nowhere else to go. No one else to depend on. Not even myself.

I reached the stop as the bus pulled up. Getting on, I found a single seat in the middle. Perfect. I pulled my hood over a little more so no one would recognize me. Even in sweats and a hoodie, I often got recognized by my face. Though it seemed no one ever looked there while I danced, they obviously did at some point during my routine. Could and did spot the mole on my right cheek from fifty feet away.

Didn’t matter. I still wanted out. My tips were slowly adding up, but not yet enough to afford my own place. Why had I become involved with a wolf omega who was the leader of the worst gang in all of Gitown? What had I ever seen in him in the first place, giving up a promising future to be with him? My parents were right when they’d objected to him. But it wasn’t until they were killed in a car accident that I realized how right they were. Now I had no one else to depend on. No one to help me leave his clutches.

After transferring onto my next bus, I heard my phone ding, indicating a text. I rolled my eyes as I pulled it from my pocket. Probably Tuan wondering where I was even though he knew my shift ended at midnight and how long it took me to get home.

No, it was from an unknown number. I froze at the single word on the screen.

Can Roan go home? Read a snippet from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #WeWriWa #MPreg #romance #PNR #LGBTQ

Hello and welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Thank you to all of you who visited me last weekend as I introduced a new story to you. MINK OMEGA IN HIDING is the second book in my Shifter Towers series, and will be releasing soon through Decadent Publishing.

Set-up: I skipped a few sentences from last weekend's snippet. Roan has finished his shift at the strip club, and is taking the bus home. During the ride, he receives a text that says Run, but thinks it was mistakenly sent to him.

Suddenly the volume of the voices on the bus heightened. I glanced out the window to see what the excitement was about then realized how close to home I was. I yanked on the stop request cord then carefully headed for the exit. And that’s when I noticed the lights. Blue and red. All flashing. My home was surrounded by police cars and crime scene tape.

Then I recalled the message. Run. It was meant for me.

He dances for him only. Read a snippet from MINK OMEGA IN HIDING #WeWriWa #MPreg #romance #LGBTQ #PNR

Hello and welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

I missed last weekend, but I'm back again to share from a new story. And I'm excited to say that this story was just contracted this past week to Decadent Publishing. It's the second book in my Shifter Towers series, MINK OMEGA IN HIDING.

Set-up: This is from the beginning of the story in Roan's point of view. (Punctuation changed from original version to fit ten sentence limit.)

As a child, I often believed standing on stage performing for enraptured spectators would be the best feeling in the world. I was so wrong. In the audience, drunk and horny wolf shifters fixated on me, waiting for me to sway my hips and peel off my clothing one piece at a time.

He’d never loved me back, not in the way I’d wanted him to. But he’d always treated me as an equal, even if he was an alpha and I was only an omega.

A Bear Shifter determined to make her his mate…BARE SEASON by @AllieRitch #NewRelease #PNR

A BEAR SHIFTER DETERMINED TO MAKE HER HIS MATE

Bare Season
by Allie Ritch

Idonea has been afraid of frost bears ever since she was attacked by one. She has also been distrustful of men after the one who should have protected her ran away. As a shifter, Massak takes the form of both man and bear, so he should be her worst nightmare. One whiff of her scent, though, and he knows they’re meant to be together. Winter is the mating season on the planet of Jensen—a time when nature strips everything bare and primal instincts rise to the surface. Massak must use this time to prove to Idonea that he’s her perfect mate. He’ll use every skill he has to protect and pleasure her until the stubborn female admits she’s his.

Idonea wasn’t sure she’d ever look at her sled again without remembering what she and Massak had done on it. As for Kelda, her hound was already yipping in excitement. The canine got into position up front and fidgeted and barked as she was harnessed.

Thanks to Massak’s successful hunt, Idonea’s sled was full and heavily weighed down. She climbed onto the back and cast him an uncertain look.

“With so much packed on here, we can’t both ride on the sled,” she explained. “Will you travel in frost bear form?”

He was very intimidating as a bear, but she supposed she would get used to it.

“I’ll travel on two legs for now.” He pulled on his shirt and added a fur coat from his pack, though he left the hood down.

She wouldn’t go too fast, so he could keep up.

Idonea tugged on her gloves and pulled up the snow hooks. She signaled her hound to get moving before the silly animal barked herself hoarse. The instant they lurched forward, the canine quieted and focused all her attention on traveling forward. The sound of panting and the hushed scrape of the sled over the snow were the only noises.

Even Massak remained quiet. He trudged stoically at her side, his long legs seeming to eat up the distance. The falling snowflakes isolated them from the rest of the world, making her feel as if they were the only ones on the planet.

She hadn’t realized she kept looking at him until he turned and smiled.

“Where is your village?” he asked in that deep voice of his.

“I live in Sos. It’s the next village over from Idona. We’re still close enough to the shore to take advantage of the fishing and hunting, but we’re inland enough that we don’t have to worry about sudden breaks in the ice.” She shot him a sly glance. “Or about having to deal with a lot of nuisance bears.”

His grin turned toothy, but he faced forward again. “Sos?”

“A strange name, I know.” She fixed her gaze on Kelda’s tail. “When my pioneer ancestors first came to settle this world, they arrived in great flying ships. The ones who eventually founded my village crashed. ‘Sos’ was the message they sent to signal their distress as their ship went down. It broke through the ice and was ultimately destroyed, but most of the people aboard were able to escape. Since they came to Jensen to live more harmoniously with nature, the loss of technology wasn’t so important. Still, I imagine their first winter was a struggle. They named the village after their cry for help. Perhaps it was meant as a joke at first, but it stuck.”

“My ancestors faced similar hardships when they first arrived,” he said. “Illness threatened to annihilate them, since their bodies could not tolerate the bacteria here. That’s why Nanook, the father of my people, asked the great frost bear to join its spirit with his. It was a matter of survival.”

She studied his strong profile. “You know, many villagers think the Children of Nanook are only a myth—farfetched tales of magical men who shift into bears.”

That seemed to amuse him. “Do you think I’m magical?”

“Yes, but you’re also flesh and blood.” She was now intimately familiar with his flesh. “So tell me more about shifters. You said most aren’t as sociable as you are.”

“Most, but not all,” he answered. “We are a combination of man and beast, so we do have a sense of community. We form clans, and as I told you, we have friends. Sometimes we’ll find an especially good hunting spot and use it as an excuse to hold a gathering.”

“And you visit your sister and nephews,” she added, remembering what he’d said about his family.

“My nephews are young but grown, and sometimes their paths cross mine while roaming. Since my sister has mated, she doesn’t travel as far. She has a stretch of shore she prefers.”

Idonea could tell he was fond of his kin, even if shifters didn’t interact the same way as her people. “Is Tuaq a family member or friend? He’s why you were visiting Idona, right? Or no, you said you were following a scent.”

“Tuaq is a friend, though I hadn’t seen him for several years,” he answered. “I went to Idona to continue my investigation. I visited Shila and Miksa first, but I wanted a male perspective.”

She remembered him mentioning the female shifters.

Idonea frowned. “Investigation?”

He looked her in the eye. “Three shifters have settled with clawless mates in recent years, when before our races remained apart. Some of my people are concerned about what this could mean for the future. I was chosen by my clan to look into the matter.”

“You were?” Idonea’s blood suddenly turned to ice. “Is that why you’re spending the winter with me? As part of your investigation?”

“Of course not.” He narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips into a tight line.

“Then why?”

He regarded her for a moment, as if debating how much to tell her. “Because you smell good,” he finally replied. “You smell right.”

It was a strange compliment, but she was oddly touched. She couldn’t doubt he was telling the truth—not when he was looking at her with such intensity. Then it hit her.

“Wait a second! The scent you were tracking from Idona was mine? You were following me?”

“Your scent ensnared me the second I inhaled it.” He drew a deep breath and released it with what sounded like a rumbling purr. “I would have followed it to the far side of the planet.”
