Hello and welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!
Thank you to everyone who visited me last weekend! This weekend, I'm continuing with a snippet from the third story in my Shifter Towers series, PIKA OMEGA PLUS ONE. It's an MM MPreg Shifter Romance. The story is now available in both ebook and print.
Set-up: In last weekend's snippet, Yoni was getting his lunch when he had an accident, and spilled his soup on an unsuspecting employee. The employee happened to be Milo, who was already having a horrible first day back to work. Yoni apologized so much, but Milo just brushed him off.
This weekend, I'm skipping ahead to chapter two. If you want to read all of chapter one, you can find it on my blog in parts (part 1, part 2, part 3)
We're in Yoni's point of view, and he is working on his next story. (punctuation changed to fit the 10 sentence limit)

I never expected my visit to the hospital to be so heartbreaking. Sure, I knew some stories would touch me more than others, but I hadn’t been at all prepared for this one. Stepping out into the fresh air, I thought I would be able to breathe again, but I couldn’t.
I sat on a bench in the healing space to the left of the main entrance, trying to fight the tears threatening to flow. I was an alpha, supposed to be emotionally detached. Crying was a huge no. What was wrong with me?
Yet, seeing the sick children who lived here because they couldn’t go home broke my heart. Some had their parents by their side, supporting them through every needle and surgery, one of them usually having left their job and possibly other children to remain at the hospital. But other children had been given up on, left to die completely alone.

PIKA OMEGA PLUS ONE
Shifter Towers book three
Milo
My mate died in a horrible car crash the night after he claimed me. I didn’t know I was pregnant with his child until he was buried in the ground. Luckily, my brother and his family supported me through it all. Now, it’s time for me to earn my keep. I’m going back to work. Not only to earn money, but to have a social life again. Even if just during the hours I’m at my job. Because I’m nowhere near ready for another relationship. Not sure I ever will be.
Yoni
I moved to Saramto to take a paid intern position at the local news station. My first time living in such a big city. And as the time limit on my contract kept looming closer, I hoped to come across something to keep me here. Nothing did. Until I met Milo and his adorable son. Now, I want them to be mine and I have no desire to leave. But my time is drawing near. While I pray for some miracle to come along and let me stay, I must find a way to tell Milo I have to go.
Pika Omega Plus One is a sweet with knotty heat shifter mm mpreg romance. It is book three in the popular Shifter Towers Series.

I like that he has a heart. This is such a sad situation at the hospital.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely sad, and unfortunately, realistic.
DeleteThis is a gut-wrenching situation for sure. I'm not sure if I want him to break down in tears or not.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ed!
DeleteEven a tough Alpha should be able to express his feelings--especially over the most innocent--sick children. However, if he's going to be a journalist, he's going to need to get some perspective and know when to detach and when to allow himself to feel. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane! Yes, he's trying hard to control himself.
DeleteThis is heart breaking. Please, dear God, let this somehow work out.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this is a very real situation. But this report he's doing is to raise funds for their local Children's Hospital.
DeleteTruly a heart-wrenching scene. But he's going to have to toughen up if he wants to stay on the job.
ReplyDeleteHe's definitely trying.
DeleteHe certainly has taken the situation to heart. A very effective snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Veronica!
DeleteClearly he's ready to be a good father.
ReplyDeleteHe hopes to be some day.
DeleteGood to see his vulnerable side. And I'm really wondering what's going with those children. Why were they abandoned?
ReplyDeleteIt's reality in a Children's Hospital. Most have family by their side, but a few only have the doctors and nurses to count on.
DeleteVulnerability lends to such a sense of tenderness. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dixie!
DeleteWhat a lovely, tender heart!! The perfect hero to enact change - if he can.
ReplyDeleteHe's hoping to make a difference.
DeleteSuch an emotional scene that tugs at the heartstrings. I feel so much for him. Btw, love the cover!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Julie!
DeleteHe may be an alpha, but he has a tender heart. I like that he cares.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elaine!
DeleteWow, that ending was sad. I loved the dread in your snippet. I’m hoping your character will be able to find something worth hoping for later in your book :)
ReplyDeleteKeep smiling,
Yawatta
That something or someone is still to come.
DeleteWhat a heartbreaking scene.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteI just finished reading chapter 1. I'm wondering if Milo's back was bad enough that he had to go to the hospital? Maybe they'll meetup there? :-) Good snippet, Jess!
ReplyDeleteNot exactly, but they do meet up because of something to do with the hospital. 😉
