As soon as they’d shoved me in the car, one of the officers had injected me with a shot of Fycerera so I couldn’t shift. It had been almost two weeks since my last injection of the stuff, and this time it had burned through my veins. Tears leaked down my cheeks, but I couldn’t wipe them away. I simply kept blinking until my vision finally cleared.

I hadn’t been in Saramto that long, but I’d lived here long enough during my college years to know the cruiser was not driving to the police station. With my hands cuffed behind my back, there wasn’t much I could do. There were no locks to pop open or handles to grab to make a daring escape. I was stuck.
